I came to gut health through my own experience rather than through a clinical career. I have always been active and interested in fitness, and I previously trained as a fitness instructor, giving me a grounding in anatomy and physiology. Over the years my interest has grown from exercise into nutrition, fasting, metabolic health and the way our everyday habits can influence how we feel.
My own food journey really began after following Mindy Pelz's The Reset Factor. I was looking for a different way to support my health because I had become increasingly frustrated by how I was feeling and did not want medication to be the only answer.
My story: Around 30 months ago I followed a gut reset programme and the difference it made to me felt life-changing. At the time I was struggling with repeated lung infections and bronchitis, tinnitus, a yeast infection accompanied by a yellow tongue, increasing allergies, eczema, low energy and worsening menopausal symptoms.
I refused to accept that medication was the only answer to all of these issues, particularly because I did not feel that the medication I was taking was making me feel better. Changing the way I ate, together with the wider habits I adopted through the reset, became the beginning of a completely different approach to my health and wellbeing.
Since February 2024, I have not been unwell — not once. That experience is what encouraged me to keep learning, to explore gut health in much greater depth and eventually to Dr Alejandro Junger's CLEAN GUT.
I am now training to be a health coach and wanted to share this experience and the knowledge I am building with you, in the hope that this Reset helps you discover new habits and a way of living that supports better health for the future.
I will be doing the Reset alongside you: sharing recipes, ideas, encouragement and what I learn along the way.
I am not a doctor, dietitian or nutritionist. My role is to organise and facilitate the programme, share the research and resources I have found useful, and create a supportive environment in which we can learn more about our own bodies together.
For me, this is about Reset · Restore · Renew — taking a focused period of time to change our habits, pay attention to how we feel and discover what works for us as individuals.

Why are we doing this?
Why gut health matters
Our gut does much more than digest food. The digestive system interacts with the immune system, metabolism, nervous system and many other processes throughout the body.
“Survival Disguised as Disease” — Dr Alejandro Junger highlights that problems originating in, or influenced by, the gut can sometimes appear as symptoms elsewhere in the body.
Chronic diseases and conditions discussed in the book
Junger discusses a wide range of symptoms and conditions, including gluten sensitivity, allergies, autoimmune disease, depression, back pain, infertility, heart disease and cancer, endometriosis and menopausal symptoms.
What this highlights is that digestive health can be relevant to much more than bloating or an upset stomach. Supporting the gut is part of a wider approach to health, alongside appropriate medical care (if needed), nutrition, movement, sleep and other lifestyle factors.
This is why we track more than digestion
Notice how your whole body feels
During the reset we will pay attention not only to digestion and bloating, but also to energy, sleep, cravings, concentration and general wellbeing. The aim is to become more aware of your own body's responses before, during and after the programme.
Our aim during these 28 days is simple: remove foods described in the programme as toxic or difficult to process, focus on repairing and supporting the gut — including the digestive tube, lymphatic tissue, intestinal flora and the gut’s nervous system — then reintroduce selected foods in a controlled process and observe how our individual bodies respond.
The framework
Remove · Replace · Reinoculate · Repair
For the first 21 days we follow the four-part framework described in Dr Alejandro Junger’s CLEAN GUT. From days 22–28, gluten and dairy are reintroduced in a controlled way so we can pay attention to how our individual bodies respond.
REMOVE
For 21 days, remove the foods and drinks excluded by the programme and focus on simple, permitted whole foods.
REPLACE
Support digestion with nourishing foods and, where appropriate, the digestive support and supplements described in the programme.
REINOCULATE
Support the gut microbiome with probiotic and prebiotic foods, helping create an environment in which beneficial microorganisms can thrive.
REPAIR
Focus on supporting the intestinal barrier — the protective lining that separates everything travelling through our digestive system from the rest of the body.
➜

What does repair mean?
The intestinal barrier acts rather like a security checkpoint. It allows useful nutrients from our food to be absorbed while helping to keep potentially harmful substances and microorganisms from crossing through the gut wall into the rest of the body. When that barrier is not working as effectively as it should, substances that would normally remain inside the gut may cross the intestinal lining and interact with the immune system, potentially contributing to inflammation.
Together, these four principles form the framework of the CLEAN GUT programme and are intended to support digestive health and overall wellbeing. After the reset, foods can be gradually reintroduced so that we can observe how our bodies respond.
Our purpose
To give ourselves 28 days to learn different eating habits, identify our toxic triggers and how our bodies respond to certain foods, to heal the gut, working towards comfort, energy and vitality.
What should I buy?
When should I buy organic?
You don’t need to buy everything organic. If you want to reduce your exposure to pesticide residues, use the UK Dirty Dozen as a practical guide to which fruit and vegetables contain the most pesticides, you may want to buy these specific ones organic. Where possible, choosing British, local and seasonal produce is another useful consideration.

Important: the FOODS TO AVOID is a list of temporary exclusions and does not mean every excluded food is inherently unhealthy. Some of the foods will be added in during the final 7 days of the programme to test if any of them trigger a reaction.

Supplements during the 21-day reset
CLEAN GUT specifies that supplements are an integral part of the gut repair programme and are used to support the four Rs — Remove · Replace · Reinoculate · Repair.
The author suggests certain supplements to support the gut and intestinal lining. However, the strength of some of the US supplements specified in the author's programme may exceed current UK guidance for supplemental use. Health Repair therefore does not recommend attempting to reproduce these higher dosages without advice from a doctor or suitably qualified healthcare professional.
ALWAYS CHECK THE PRODUCT LABEL AND FOLLOW THE MANUFACTURER'S DIRECTIONS.
Herbal antimicrobial — Used during the Remove phase to support the programme's aim of reducing unwanted microorganisms in the gut.
S. boulardii — A beneficial probiotic yeast used to help support a healthy intestinal environment and gut microbial balance.
Probiotic — Provides beneficial bacteria to help Reinoculate the gut and support a diverse, balanced microbiome.
Digestive enzyme — Helps Replace digestive support by assisting the breakdown of proteins, fats and carbohydrates from food.
Monolaurin — Used as part of the Remove phase for its antimicrobial properties and to support the balance of microorganisms in the gut.
B-vitamin complex — Provides B vitamins involved in normal energy metabolism and normal functioning of the nervous system, supporting the body nutritionally during the programme.
Magnesium — Supports normal muscle and nervous-system function and contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue; taken before bed in the CLEAN GUT schedule.
⚠️ PRODUCT STRENGTH MATTERS The book's schedule states supplement units, but a linked commercial product may have a different formulation or strength. Do not assume that “1” in the book automatically means one capsule/tablet of every product. Check the manufacturer's label and, where appropriate, a pharmacist or qualified healthcare professional.
⚠️ SUPPLEMENT SAFETY Supplements may not be suitable for everyone and can interact with medicines or health conditions. If you take prescribed medication, have a medical condition, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have particular nutritional needs, seek appropriate professional advice before using supplements.

Feeling Hungry...
If you are feeling hungry you may need to add more protein to your smoothies and more (good) fats. It’s OK if you do feel hungry, it is normal for your body to behave differently each day.

Better together
Why do this as a group?
Changing the way we eat for four weeks can be much easier when we are doing it together. Our group is somewhere we can talk about what we are finding difficult, encourage one another, share experiences and stay motivated.
I’ll be doing the programme alongside everyone else. I haven’t done this specific programme before, so it will be new to me as well.

Important before you begin
Allergies, supplements & health considerations
Food allergies: Some meal and smoothie ideas include nuts, seeds and nut butters. If you have a nut or other food allergy, do not use ingredients that are unsafe for you. Check product labels for allergens and cross-contamination warnings and use only alternatives that are appropriate for your own allergy requirements.
Supplements: The supplements shown in this app are included for information following a review of established gut-health programmes and current research. They are not being recommended or prescribed. Supplements may not be suitable for everyone and may interact with medicines or health conditions.
Before making changes: If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a medical condition, a history of disordered eating, particular nutritional requirements, a diagnosed food allergy, or take prescribed medication, speak with an appropriately qualified healthcare professional before making significant dietary changes or taking supplements.
The group facilitator is participating alongside the group and is not acting as a doctor, dietitian or nutritionist. The group provides practical support, motivation and shared experience rather than individual medical or nutritional advice.
Do not stop, reduce or alter prescribed medication because of anything discussed in the group.
